This must be why God gives us free will
I don’t know about you, but when my children see something that needs to be done and do it without prompting, it warms my heart to no end.
It’s Good when they do something that I ask without complaining, whining or giving me the look.
It’s Better when they complete their responsibilities without a prompt from me.
It’s the Best feeling when they see something that needs to be done and they just do it.
It’s amazing how a simple gesture like taking out the trash or sweeping the floor or cleaning the counter will make my day when they take initiative. This is a whole new level and should be every parent’s goal.
This must be the reason God gives us free will. It pleases him tremendously when we make wise decisions that are aligned with his Word. If he forced us to do it, it would not be as meaningful.
When our children are young, we make them obey us. As they mature, we give them chores and responsibilities and ask them to be proactive. When they take initiative, we no longer need to worry.
This is a daily journey in our family, but I see more and more glimpses of hope every day.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
